Progressions. Method of secondary progressions Astrological progressions |
The most important series of directions are those that affect the radix (natal), progressive and reverse MC and the ascendant. The corners of the chart are especially sensitive points, and when they are in aspect with a radical, progressive or reverse planet, then the influence of this planet temporarily becomes predominant in the life of a given person, producing effects in accordance with the nature of this planet and the conditions of its location in this case. Not a single important event will occur in a person's life if at this time there is no direction affecting the angle of the horoscope. The solar directions are almost as influential as the directions concerning angles. It is possible to predict all major events in life, using only directions concerning angles and the Sun. During a year in which directorates of this kind are not formed, only minor events can be expected. These secondary events are often indicated by the interplanetary directorates, which as a class are less powerful than the previous two series. However, the study of interplanetary directions is often a good help in determining the exact scope of the angular or solar directions. If during a given year there are no active directions affecting the angles of the horoscope or the Sun, then the interplanetary directions will help to establish the type of events that can happen in the period in question. If a major event is about to happen in life, it is usually indicated by more than one progressive aspect. Hence, interplanetary directorates form an important part of the progression methods, if only as supporting evidence. Aspects formed between the progressed Moon and the radix, progressed and reversed planets and angles are much less powerful than the angular, solar and interplanetary directions, and have influence only within a degree. They have their own influence, which, not being overridden by the effects of any angular, solar or interplanetary aspects that peak at the same time, can color a period of two months in a noticeable way. However, their fundamental significance lies in the fact that they can, as it were, call to action or "hang up" other directions, the effect of which extends over a much longer period. If, for example, a progressed Jupiter is in conjunction with a radix MC, and at that point the progressed Moon is passing through the MC, the time indicated by the conjunction of the Moon may mark the climax of the period during which maximum results from the Jupiter-MS conjunction can be expected. If two planets are in aspect in a progressed horoscope, and the progressed Moon forms aspects with both, this may hasten the full effect of the aspect between these planets. It is very useful to note the house and sign through which the progressed Moon passes.. The aspects of life to which they correspond will acquire a more prominent significance in the affairs of this person. Read more about the Moon in the articles "", "" When tabulated all the aspects formed by the progression during any one year, they must be carefully correlated and distributed in the order of their likely influence. As we have said, the directions relating to the radix, progressive, and reciprocal angles are the most important, followed by the directions formed by the progressive, reciprocal, or radix Sun. By observing the strength and position of the planets in a radix horoscope, one can determine which planets are most likely to produce the most noticeable results when they become active in progression. The planets that are considered the most significant in position are those that are in fairly accurate aspect with a large number of planets and the ruler of the ascendant. Then the interplanetary aspects should be listed, and finally the lunar progressions. In evaluating the strength of the various directions, it should not be forgotten that progressions affecting the radix positions of the planets are not necessarily stronger than progressions affecting two progressive planets or two reversed planets, or one progressive and one reversed planet. Of course, reverse directions are no weaker in effect than direct ones, and one often gets the impression that they act with greater force. Perhaps this is due to the fact that planetary positions before birth seem to be connected in a special way with the actions of a person in the past; this suggests that most people are not yet able to seize the opportunity to change their karma through right thinking and right action. The ability of a person to change his karma is probably indicated by the positions of the planets in the days after his birth. Although each year a new progressive MC and ascendant is established on the basis of the radix chart, these points are usually not used as the basis for a completely new chart. The progressive and reverse horoscopes only gain more weight through their association with the radix, so when the student tries to appreciate the importance of the progressive and reverse planetary positions, he must relate them to the system of the natal chart, and not to some position that they can take in relation to a new pattern based on the progressive or reverse MC degree. In estimating the length of time over which the influence of the secondary direction will extend, it is sufficient to make a tolerance of one degree on each side of the exact aspect between two bodies, with the exception of the Sun, where this tolerance may well be increased to one and a half degrees. Therefore, the progressive aspect will come into effect as soon as two planets, or a planet and an angle, are within one degree of the exact aspect, and the influence of this direction will be felt until the faster moving planet or angle moves to; distance over one degree from the exact aspect. There is one important exception to this rule. Over a period corresponding to the duration of life, those planets that move more slowly rarely move further than two or three degrees from their positions at the time of birth. Often the positions of progressive and reverse Uranus differ by no more than three or four degrees, this also applies to Neptune and Pluto. When this happens, it turns out that the entire area of the chart is, as it were, “covered” by this planet, and the actions of the progressive aspect will continue during the entire time that the planet of the direction casts the aspect onto this area. Naturally, such influences will be somewhat blurred, but nevertheless they will unmistakably declare themselves. Those planets that move faster cannot cover the area in this way, unless they remain for several days in one position. Once the current directorates have been tabulated and ranked in order of importance, it is usually not difficult to judge whether the overall trend is good or bad. One good lunar direction cannot overcome the influx of several angular or solar directions of opposite nature, just as one bad interplanetary direction cannot upset a number of favorable directions. Sometimes the cycle of favorable directions extends over a period of several years, and it is replaced by an unfavorable cycle. Then the most important and critical period is the adjustment period between these two cycles. A year in which strong directions are not formed, in the middle of a favorable cycle, is hardly likely to be unsettling for a given person, while a similar year, falling in the middle of an unfavorable cycle, promises only a short respite from troubles. When there are no strong influences in the annual series of secondary directions, monthly and weekly series can be more actively brought into play, which will give a broader picture of the planetary atmosphere for that year. In many old textbooks, all good progressive aspects were interpreted as bringing happy events, while at the same time, bad progressive aspects were considered to indicate bad luck. While there is some basis for such a view, in many cases such arbitrary rules will not do. If at birth a planet is in trine to one of the angles of the horoscope, then the period when this progressive angle comes into a square or in opposition to this planet can bring a lot of good, especially if the planet is favorable, since its connection with the MC or ascendant is harmonious connection. On the other hand, if the planet involved in the configuration brings evil, then even a trine at birth to the MC or ascendant will hardly protect a person from all bad influences when the corresponding angle goes into a square or opposition to this planet. Similarly, if a planet in a radix chart is square to an angle, then the good that it can bring by going into a trine or sextile to that angle is likely to be reduced due to this. If this planet brings evil, then a progressive trine or sextile can even coincide with unpleasant events. The strength of each planet by sign should also be taken into account, for a planet placed in a favorable sign brings more good when it is in good aspect, and causes less evil when it is in bad aspect than it would otherwise be. The cardinal principle of divination and the golden rule to keep in mind at all times is this: Nothing will happen unless the radix indicates it. Before trying to predict something, it is necessary to study in as much detail as possible the possibilities hidden in the birth chart. No matter how favorable the directions may be at any particular period of life, no good will arise from them for a long time, unless the radical horoscope indicates such a possibility. Similarly, one should not predict long-term troubles based on the prevalence of bad directions if the overall trend of the given radix is favorable. No major event can happen unless it is heralded by a strong progressive aspect, either in the MC or in the Ascendant. It can also be boldly asserted that no significant event will occur in life unless there are two or three indications of an event of the same type in the directions relating to this period. The Sun will almost always be associated with one of these progressive aspects, as the Sun represents the inner essence of each card. Therefore, if an event has a real significance, then it will necessarily reverberate on the inner as well as on the outer life. It would be useful to emphasize once again that it is the angles of the horoscope (MS, ascendant and opposite points) that are the most important factors of the entire chart. Although interplanetary aspects formed by progressions may indeed have some effect on life, their maximum impact will not be felt until one or more planets are simultaneously in aspect with radix or progressive angles of the horoscope. These angles are, as it were, some kind of “flashpoints” through which the internal possibilities of the horoscope come out. If the progressive interplanetary aspect does not find its way out through the corners of the chart, its influence will not reach its maximum expression. The strongest progressive interplanetary aspects will be those formed between planets that were in aspect to one another at the time of birth. Sometimes it will happen that a planet, which at birth was in close aspect to the ascendant or MC, moves through the Zodiac in progressions for a number of years at the same speed as the angle with which it formed the radix aspect. Then this planet and the angle in the course of their movement will remain at an equal distance from each other and will simultaneously form aspects with other radical and progressive planets. Such progressive aspects falling at the same time will have an additional force, and during the period of their influence will have a very strong effect. It often happens that in a radix there is a set of planets in almost exact aspect, so that progressive angles simultaneously form aspects with several radix, and sometimes several progressive planets at once. In such cases, before making any predictions, it is imperative to understand the full meaning of this combination of planets. For example, if Venus is in a very exact square to Mars and Saturn in the birth chart, then the conjunction of the progressive ascendant in the radical Venus is much more likely to bring sadness rather than joy into life. When the corners of the chart fall in progression to a point in the Zodiac located in the middle between two radical planets, especially if on the birth chart these planets are in aspect to one another, then events corresponding to the nature of these two planets should be expected. We see that as the MC and Ascendant progress through the Zodiac, the intermediate house cusps progress as well. Aspects formed between progressed planets and progressed cusps will always herald events whose nature is appropriate for that house. These events will not be of paramount importance, unless the directions, giving appropriate instructions, affect the MC and the ascendant. When the angles of the progressive horoscope reach the degree of the Zodiac occupied by one of the cusps of the intermediate houses of the radix pattern, then we can expect events corresponding to the nature of this house. A similar indication is given when the cusp of the progressive house reaches the degree occupied by the radix MC or ascendant. The remarks made especially concern the cusps calculated according to the Placidus system. When making predictions, we must not forget that the full impact of the direction may not appear immediately.. A person may embark on a new path that coincides with a particular direction, and he may not feel the effects of such a change until many months or even years have passed. If the initial steps were taken under good direction, then the final result is likely to be favorable, if vice versa, the result is likely to be unsatisfactory, unless the radix contains strong indications to the contrary. It goes without saying that absolute accuracy of interpretation is not always possible to achieve, because if astrologers could predict the nature of events down to the smallest detail, then it would seem that a person’s free will does not influence his fate at all. However, it is surprising how accurately an astrologer can indicate the pattern of future events if he has mastered the symbolism of astrology and has become familiar with the principles and aspects of life that correspond to various signs, planets and houses. At first, the student should confine himself to the fact that his predictions outline the general trends of events, he should not try to predict everything to the smallest detail. I will no longer torment you with looking for aspects and calculations. For an initial acquaintance with forecasting, and for real practical work, you can safely limit your arsenal of methods to symbolic directions and transits. However, I cannot leave aside the secondary progressions, as they give us one not difficult but interesting approach. In some cases, this approach will allow you to see the most important, changeful years in a person's life. Secondary progressions, primary directions... Surely you have a question - why some are primary and others are secondary. I could talk about it, but it will be long and uninteresting. Therefore, if for some reason you find the name “secondary progressions” inconvenient, call them “day-for-year progressions” (you will soon see why) - and everyone will understand what you mean. Here I want to tell you about a handy forecasting tool - ephemeris tables. If you come across this thick book in the store, crammed full of small numbers, be sure to buy it. I talked about how to use ephemeris to build a horoscope by hand in Chapter 2. In fact, in our time, very few people build cities. ospreys by hand - both computers and astrological programs are quite affordable. But in forecasting, ephemerides are very convenient. Instead of turning on the computer, running the program, entering the initial data in order to find out where the transit planets were on the day you are interested in, you can simply open the ephemeris on the desired page and read the positions of the planets in the corresponding line. In addition, it is convenient to use ephemerides to immediately see in which signs of the Zodiac the planets of the person you are interested in are located, and with a certain skill, you will also notice aspects between them. Not bad information at all, considering that it took you one second to get it. Finally, the ephemeris allows you to quickly see if any planets are progressing during the life of the horoscope holder - that's what I'm going to tell you about. If you do not have a book of ephemeris tables but have access to the Internet, you can find 3000 year ephemeris on Astro.com at http://www.astro.com/swisseph/swepha_e.htm. This is a very valuable resource. "Paper" ephemerides exist only for the 20th and early 21st centuries. If you are interested in the positions of the planets in the distant future or past, you can't do without a visit to Astro.com. Secondary progressions are similar to transits in that they also use the actual movement of the planets. Only it is taken on a scale of approximately 1: 365. In the sense that 1 year of life is assigned to each day of the actual movement of the planets. For example, George W. Bush (senior) was born on June 12, 1924 at 11:45. If we want to make a prediction for the time when he was 10 years old and apply secondary progressions, then we will need to find out how the real planets were located ten days after his birth. That is, the position of the planets at 11:45 am on June 22, 1924 (10 days after Bush's birth) will show the events that will occur in his life around June 12, 1934 (ten years after his birth). Each day of real time is projected onto a year of life, which is why this method is often called "day-by-year progression." I hope you get the idea. In normal work with progressions, everything is very similar to working with directions or with slow transits. We find where the progressions of the planets are located, what aspects they form to the natal chart and interpret these aspects. All this can be done with the ZET Astroprocessor. How - I'll show a little later. Here I want to demonstrate one interesting property of secondary progressions, which, in the presence of ephemeris, will allow you in some cases to see the most important periods of a person's life at a glance in the table. The idea is this. When a person is born, some planets may be direct, others retrograde. Time passes, and after a certain number of days after the birth, the planet that was retrograde can turn around and become direct. Conversely, the planet that was direct may turn around and become retrograde. If this happens, say, 20 days after the birth of a person (a retrograde planet becomes direct), we can say that when a person is 20 years old, the secondary progression of this planet will become direct and corresponding changes will occur in a person’s life. What exactly are the changes? Depends on the specific planet and its position in the horoscope. I have written something about progression reversals in the chapters on each of the planets. I can only add that the changes, as a rule, are very significant, it's just that the course of life changes direction. I have Uranus, retrograde at birth and located in the X house, became progressively direct when I was 28 years old. With my own hands, I completely destroyed my quite successful career in the army and left to study astrology. Another reversal occurred three years ago, Saturn direct at birth turned retrograde. And again life entered a sharp turn, as a result of which I thoroughly changed my place of residence. What am I all about myself, yes about myself? Let's take a closer look at George W. Bush. His horoscope is shown in Fig. 15.7. We can immediately turn our attention to the Grand Trine formed by the Sun in the 10th house, Saturn in the 2nd house and Mars in the 6th house. The Grand Trin is God's Gift. Here intertwined high position in society, the ability to put things in order in money matters (exalted Saturn; if it were less well located in the Zodiac, we would say about financial difficulties) and the ability to spare no effort in work. And all this on the basis of an excellent ability to communicate and establish contacts (Big Trine in the element of Air). Very similar to a high-ranking and successful businessman, isn't it? And George W. Bush really was one. He was the owner and manager of an oil company that he himself founded, and when he sold it in 1966, he became a millionaire. Why did he sell it? Rice. 15.7. Birth Horoscope for George W. Bush Now look at Venus in the 11th house trine Uranus in the 7th house and square the Moon in the 2nd house. A very good configuration for a politician. You can read what such a Venus is talking about in the chapter on this planet, and the aspects of Uranus and the Moon give it a public resonance. Only one thing prevents success in politics: this Venus is retrograde. Let's open the ephemeris and see if the planets changed direction after the birth of George W. Bush? On Fig. 15.8. two ephemeris tables are shown, for June and July 1924 (the ephemeris used are those available on Astro.com). I underlined Bush's date of birth, June 12, and also underlined July 24 and 25. You can see that on the July 24th line in the Venus column is the letter D, and on the July 25th line in the Mars column is the letter R. A rare case: within two years, two planets at once changed direction of movement in a progression. Let's look at when this happened in the life of George W. Bush. Figure 15.8. Ephemeris tables for June and July 1924 You can simply count line by line how many days have passed from your birthday to July 24 and 25. I got 42 and 43 days. In the ephemeris, the letters D and R are put on the day after the planet turns, so we reduce the result by 1. It turns out that retrograde Venus became direct 41 days after the birth of Bush, and direct Mars became retrograde 42 days later. From the point of view of the method of secondary progressions, this means that at the age of 41-42, some very significant changes should have occurred in Bush's life. And they really happened. Bush left business and went into politics. In 1964 (at the age of 40) he made his first, unsuccessful attempt to get into the Senate. And in 1966 (aged 42) he sold his oil company and became a congressman. Mars, becoming retrograde, made Bush's Big Business Trin less relevant, and Venus, becoming direct, strengthened his potential as a politician. So everything is very symbolic. In conclusion of the conversation about progressions, let's learn how to build them in the ZET Astroprocessor. Construction of a secondary progression Plot or retrieve from the database the natal chart of the person you want to progression for. Open the dialog with the initial data by clicking on the corresponding button. It will show the data for the natal chart you have chosen. Click the button background data and enter the date for which you want to build a progression. Switch Natal - Horar - Double - Return set to Double. From the dropdown under this radio button, select Progression. Click the button run, and then Close. As a result, you will see a double map, very similar to the one we used in the transit method. This completes the technical part of the work, it remains to study and interpret aspects. Let me give you some tips for working with progressions. The progression of the Moon moves the fastest, about 1 degree per month. It often serves as a trigger for the slower aspects to kick in. Also important are the passages of the progression of the Moon through the angular cusps of the horoscope - Ascendant, Descendant, MC and IC. The most informative progressions are Mercury, Venus and Mars: they move neither too fast nor too slow. As for Jupiter and beyond, these planets move extremely slowly in progression and usually do not have time to make any significant aspects in the life of a person. Based on these observations and the experience gained in the study of directions and transits, I am sure you will be able to handle the secondary progressions on your own. The last method I will show you is called the profection method. Each radix planet is considered to move at a rate of one degree per year, and this degree indicates the year of a person's life. By counting as many degrees as you are now, you will get the primary progression. Do not touch houses in this progression! Lots too. All points of the radix are displaced along the signs of the Zodiac. So, for a year of life there is one degree, for a month - 5 minutes, for a week - a little more than one minute. When, with such their movement, the planets find themselves on the borders of houses or the places of other planets, then a rhythm is laid, which has not yet been manifested. Progressions are the reverse side of transits, they are the foundation of those events that await us in life. Progressions without transits - a foundation without a house, transits without progressions - a house without a foundation. Only that situation will be permanent and long-lasting, will be able to lay some period of work, which includes both progressions and transits. The progressions show our karmic readiness for any events and our ability to perceive them. Transits show temporary events that exist independently of us and which may go unnoticed. It is very important to keep track of those years when, one planet replaces another in the radix. It is at these times that events are laid, but these events may not be confirmed, not turned on and not lost, if at the same time there is no significant transit that would connect these two points. Example: the progression of Mars reached radical Uranus, there was 31 degrees between them. Both of these planets were very evil and were in the eighth house of the horoscope. In the 31st year of his life, nothing bad happened to him, because the progressive situation was not confirmed by transits - neither Mars nor Uranus at the same time were in any way in bad aspects to radical points. And in general - there were no bad aspects to these radical points. But that year, this person constantly turned out to be a witness or accomplice of some bad deeds, bad rumors, and some strange things happened next to him - the electricity went out, a friend crashed on a motorcycle, etc. So, the “foundation” turned out to be without “at home”, because in this year Mars almost did not move, there was a Great opposition of Mars, and Uranus made a trine to this Mars. But in another person, progressive Saturn found on Mars in the 24th year of life, both of them were in the third house of the horoscope - the house of short trips, trips, etc. Mars, the ruler of the ninth house, had to do with travel. At the same time, Mars itself was in opposition to Saturn, and Saturn at that time was in square to radical Mars. The man was hit by a train. Thus the tau-square of progression and transit was realized, the 3rd and 9th houses were involved. Aspects of the radix indicate your view of the world, this is an objective reality given to us from the very beginning. If initially there was a quadrature between Mars and Uranus, then it acts throughout life, and the trine in progressions can only soften this contradiction, this conflict for some time. If there is a trine in the radix, and a bad constellation has formed in progressions or transits, then the trine will “pull” you out of this bad situation - it will not let you die. Radix forces are coiled, passive; transits and progressions are active forces, real ones. Primary progression shows the underside of any situation. In this progression, the situation begins to play out half a year before the exact aspect (half a degree) and at the exit from the exact aspect - also half a year. And so - during the year, knowing the exact boundaries of houses, ASC and MS makes it possible to predict events very accurately. If the planet in the radix is retrospective, then the progression will act more at a distance (after the exact aspect); if the planet is direct, then the situation is realized up to the exact aspect, a stationary planet - the situation is realized on the approach and at the exit. Lunar nodes in progression act more at a distance. These progressions primarily take into account coatings- Finding a progressive planet in place of a radical one. The second most important is aspect between a progressive planet and a radical place. If this aspect, resulting from the calculation of the progression, is confirmed by transits, then a certain rhythm will be laid. At one time, W. Churchill did not have enough 66 gr. before the closing of the trine of the Sun and Jupiter by Mars. He lived for 65.5 years and became prime minister and then a national hero of England. At the same time, there were very favorable transits of Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus, which contributed to the laying of a large and significant rhythm in his life. Aspects can be both good and bad. It happens like this: in progressions, the aspect is favorable, and in transit, the aspect is negative. For example: in progression - the trine of the Sun to Jupiter, and in transit - the opposition of Jupiter to the Sun. Then the person starts moving. On the one hand, it seems to be lucky, but on the other hand, nothing happens. Victory can be achieved, but through very great difficulties, and this victory can be ephemeral if aspects are good in transits and bad in progression. Trine the Sun with Jupiter - the need to achieve power. The trine of Mars with Saturn shows at what age a person will be most vulnerable. |
